Recommendation for beginner bassoonists:
Have at least three reeds in your case and rotate which reed you play daily. This will make sure they last longer.
Understanding the life cycle of a reed:
Reeds change, which is fairly predictable. Reeds start out buzzy, loud, and flat, then develop a dark tone. After awhile reeds become, sharp, closed, stuffy, and resistant. They can be adjusted.
